Key models for drug development in myocarditis
Myocarditis is primarily due to limited or diffuse inflammatory lesions of the myocardium. There are various causes of the disease, including viral infections, bacterial, fungal, spirochete, rickettsial, protozoal, and helminthic infections, as well as non-infectious factors such as drugs, toxins, radiation, connective tissue disease, vasculitis, giant cell myocarditis, and nodular disease. Symptoms of myocarditis may vary depending on the course of the disease, ranging from the absence of conscious symptoms to the development of severe cardiogenic shock, heart failure, severe arrhythmias and even sudden death.
We have established stable multiple models of myocarditis that are suitable for the study of drugs for preclinical myocarditis and the evaluation of new drugs.
