Key Model for Diarrhea Drug Development
Diarrhea is a common disease defined as more than 3 bowel movements per day, fecal output of more than 200 g/day, thin texture of feces, and water content of >85%. Diarrhea can be categorized as acute diarrhea and chronic diarrhea. Typical symptoms of diarrhea are frequent bowel movements and thin feces, which may be accompanied by abdominal pain or lead to dehydration, which in severe cases affects the patient's life.
We have established a stable 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu)-induced diarrhea model, which is suitable for the study of drugs with preclinical diarrhea and the evaluation of new drugs.
